After much deliberation, the West Virginia Association of Fairs and Festivals Board of Directors has voted to cancel the 2021 convention and pageant scheduled for January 7-9, 2021. Breanna Pekula, the current WVAFF Queen, will continue her reign for 2021.
“We are devastated with the decision to cancel our annual convention, but as our industry has discovered this year, there are many factors that go into making a decision such as this,” Board President Kelly Collins stated. “The health and safety of our members, partners, and contestants will always come first, and unfortunately we have to plan for what we know today, not what we hope it will look like in January. We also understand the financial strain many of our members are facing and feel that it is the fiscally responsible decision.”
The 2021 event would have been the 89th Annual Convention for the WV Association of Fairs and Festivals.
The Board of Directors is working to create educational opportunities for our members moving forward, as well as guidelines for our events and pageants. More announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
The 89th Annual Convention will now be January 13-15, 2022, at the Charleston Civic Center and Charleston Town Center Marriott. To be eligible to compete in the pageant, events must pay membership fees by January 15, 2021.
