Below is information supplied to us from the organizers of the Special Olympics West Virginia Summer Games. This could be a wonderful opportunity for volunteers and an opportunity to showcase the spirit behind all of the local Fairs and Festivals across West Virginia.
If you choose to volunteer, we suggest that you plan on wearing your sash for most of the time you are volunteering, and then have your crown available for photo ops at the end of the day. And it should go without saying……..comfortable shoes that will allow you to participate on all types of surfaces.
Deadline to submit application to volunteer is May 15.
Information from the Organizers
Volunteers are needed for the Special Olympics West Virginia Summer Games which will be held May 31 – June 2 at Laidley Field in Charleston, WV. This is the biggest state event bringing in around 1,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities. Therefore, we are looking for 600 volunteers to help make this event a success.
There are several different volunteer roles available. Some examples are; Olympic Village, Finish Line Greeters and Sports Volunteers. The Olympic Village serves as the “fun zone” for our athletes to hang out in between competitions. There will be games, dancing, karaoke, dress up, make up, etc. This is a fun place to be. We also have Finish Line Greeters that cheer on the athletes as they cross the finish line and escort them to awards after their competition. And of course there are volunteer roles with specific sports such as track and field, golf, and tennis.
Use this link to our Volunteer Application that includes descriptions of all volunteer roles, as well as times of events.
